A lector (reader) is one who publicly reads scripture and leads assigned prayers in worship. This is a great responsibility, for although it is your voice being used, it is God’s word being spoken. Most sermons at St. Francis draw heavily on the Biblical texts of the day, so in some sense the lector’s readings are the first part of the sermon. Not everyone who goes to church reads the Bible, so what they hear on Sunday may be the only Bible they know. For these reasons, it is critical that lectors read in a manner that conveys the words of scripture audibly and accurately.
