As you enter our worship area you may notice a red wagon…this represents and functions as a meaningful symbol of an outreach program we have participated in for decades…the Eureka Food Pantry. Being aware that many neighbors in our community and those nearby have people who need help each month providing enough food for their household – pastors of local churches developed a service program to help. The Eureka United Methodist Church provided a space in their lower level and staffed it with volunteers from our region, including volunteers from St. Francis’.
Every Sunday we collect non-perishable food items and hygiene products for clients of the Eureka Food Pantry. During the worship service on the third Sunday of each month, the offerings are brought forward in our red wagon. The dedicated staff of volunteers then help one morning a month with sorting the donated items, distributing balanced food items, and enrolling new clients. ALL items donated go directly to the Food Pantry…there are no overhead costs.
Some items that may be collected are:
- Non-Perishable Food Items
- Hygiene Products
- Paper Products (tissues, toilet paper, etc.)
- Soaps and Cleaning Solutions
Once a year we also have a large, special in-gathering, blessing the gifts and praying for our neighbors living with food insecurity.
You are welcome to add to the wagon anytime you arrive. We have been delighted to see how quickly it fills up from week to week. If you would like more information on this ministry, please contact Arlene Underwood.
Our red wagon – overflowing.
