In Fall 2024, St. Francis Episcopal Church launched our prairie reclamation project, working closely with the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) and Quail Forever. This multi-year effort revitalizes a ¼ acre surrounding our Memorial Garden for native flowers, grasses and wildlife that will call this place home. In January 2026, we’ve seeded the grounds with native plants and are looking forward our work bear fruit.
Our pocket prairie brings this belief to life, as it allows us to:
- Emulate St. Francis, the patron saint of creation, by returning a portion of our land to its natural state.
- Offer unique learning opportunities to our local schools, library and childcare centers.
- Provide a reflective place, immersed in nature, for those visiting our Memorial Garden.
- Live into our Gospel call to care for the earth.
