Acolytes
The job of an acolyte is to serve the clergy however needed to ensure the worship services flow smoothly. Acolytes are responsible for lighting and extinguishing candles used during the worship service and also may serve as crucifer (carrying the processional cross), server (assisting at the altar during the Eucharist), thurifer ( preparing and carrying incense), and other duties.
Altar Guild
The Altar Guild cares for the altar, vestments, vessels, and altar linens of the church and prepares the sanctuary for services and cleans up afterwards. They are charged with creating an environment in which all people can experience God’s love and be renewed.
Bible Study
Our bible study group meets on Thursday mornings to explore our biblical roots and their relevance in our lives today.
Forum
Our Sunday Forum offers a balance of material that promotes biblical literacy, community awareness and an opportunity to share our own stories. These gatherings take place on most all Sundays in the community room between services.
Godly Play
Godly Play is a Montessori-based program that helps children make meaning through biblical stories, wonder and prayer. Children ages 4 and older are welcome to attend our classes during the 10:30 a.m. Sunday worship services (during the school year). Students return to the service in time to share Holy Communion with their families.
Greeters
Our team of greeters makes sure every person who comes to our church service is met with a smile and a welcome offering hospitality and answering any questions visitors may have.
Lay Eucharistic Ministers
These lay volunteers are licensed by the bishop to distribute the consecrated elements of bread and wine during the celebration of the Eucharist in church and also to take the elements to those unable to be present due to illness or infirmity.
Lectors / Intercessors
Lay volunteers read the Hebrew Scriptures and the New Testament Epistles during our worship services. Another group of intercessors lift our common prayers to God during the Prayers of the People.
Music / St. Francis Singers
The Music Director leads the musical offerings during the worship services at St. Francis. Cantors, soloists and instrumentalists support the program. The St. Francis Singers are church members who come together for limited rehearsals to sing an anthem once each month.
Spiritual Café
This group comes together on the third Monday of each month to share a meal and discuss books, prayers and other spiritual practices. This ministry offers a space to respectfully discuss and gain a new perspective on our thoughts and beliefs.
Ushers
Ushers make the worship flow by welcoming congregants, distributing bulletins, passing the offering plate, directing people to communion and leaving the church in good condition for the next service.
Wired Worship
We began livestreaming our worship services out of necessity during the COVID pandemic. We continue to offer our worship services online to welcome anyone, anywhere live each Sunday at 10:30 a.m. and on demand through our YouTube channel.
Youth and Family
St. Francis youth are invited to be full and active members of our church community. Youth members serve as acolytes, lectors and ushers during our worship services. They also plan special events for the congregation and serve in community activities throughout the year.
